Recently, the International Medical Center of Fosun Health's Guangdong Pharmaceutical University Guangzhou Fosun Chancheng Hospital (Guangzhou Xinshi Hospital), in collaboration with the departments of Obstetrics & Gynecology, ICU, and the operating theater team, successfully performed an ovarian tumor resection on a foreign patient with a long-term history of hypertension. A massive malignant ovarian tumor measuring approximately 15×15cm in diameter was removed. The procedure was completed smoothly, and thanks to the multidisciplinary team's coordinated efforts, the patient has recovered well and is now ready to be discharged for further
recuperation at home.
Diagnosed with terminal cancer, she crossed oceans to China in search of a lifeline
Five months ago, Bella from Mongolia accidentally discovered a small lump in her lower abdomen accompanied by bloating. After examinations at a local hospital, she was diagnosed with an ovarian tumor (high-grade serous carcinoma). Initially unable to accept the diagnosis, Bella persevered and sought treatment options from various sources.
Upon a friend’s recommendation, she learned that several major hospitals in Guangzhou, China, specialized in gynecological oncology. After careful comparison, Bella chose the International Minimally Invasive Tumor Diagnosis and Treatment Center at Guangdong Pharmaceutical University Guangzhou Fosun Chancheng Hospital (Guangzhou Xinshi Hospital). The center brings together leading oncology experts who not only provide cutting-edge minimally invasive tumor treatments but also offer comprehensive support services, including translation, airport transfers, and customized meal plans to enhance patients’ quality of life.
Following an online multidisciplinary consultation with the hospital’s gynecology, general surgery, and oncology specialists, Bella made her decision. “I felt the hospital’s environment and treatment plan aligned well with my needs. The experts explained the options with exceptional patience and attention to detail, which ultimately convinced me to choose this center,” she said.
Medical Team's Meticulous Care Successfully "Defuses the Time Bomb" – Patient Pens Heartfelt Letter of Gratitude
Upon arrival at the hospital, the medical team promptly arranged further examinations for Bella. The results revealed an ovarian tumor measuring approximately 15 cm in diameter, which had completely enveloped the uterine fundus and posterior wall with severe adhesions. Given the tumor's massive size and its close proximity to critical blood vessels and organs, even the slightest error during surgery could have led to serious complications.
Prior to the procedure, Dr. Gu Zhengtian and his team conducted thorough preparations to ensure meticulous dissection during the operation. On the day of surgery, Dr. Gu carefully isolated and dissected the tumor from the surrounding "jungle-like" entanglement of blood vessels and lymphatic tissues, ultimately succeeding in removing this hidden "time bomb" from Bella's abdomen.
Before her departure, Bella penned a heartfelt letter to express her gratitude to the medical team. She presented it to the department as a token of appreciation, writing: “I am truly grateful for everyone’s care—whether in the general ward or the ICU, I could feel the warmth and dedication of the entire team.”
